ABOUT ME

My Specialty

I'm Steven Gast, a gameplay programmer and designer who specializes in creating player characters and gameplay systems. After five years of professional and indie game development, I've focused on creating engaging characters that players remember.

Industry Experience

I've completed two internships, where I learned how important it is to collaborate across all fields of game design. Those experiences allowed me to improve on iterating and designing systems that fit into a larger vision. I work the best with teams that allow me to be creative within the constraints that I'm given.

What I Typically Work On

While I focus on player characters, I enjoy building all parts of gameplay. Throughout my projects, I've contributed across many areas of development, including artificial intelligence, combat systems, UI, and level design. Combat, in particular, is one of my favorite systems to work on, as I'm always looking for ways to make it feel smooth and unique.

I'm also passionate about helping myself and others grow. During university, I served on the executive boards of both the Game Design Club and IGDA, where I organized and led workshops covering game development, pitching, and professional development. I also worked as both a Teaching Assistant and Supplemental Instructor, mentoring students and helping them strengthen their technical and design skills.

Games have always been a large part of my life so I love being able to give back and make unforgettable experiences for others.
